Our Story

Where Warisan Advocates began

Warisan Advocates was founded in Kuala Lumpur by a small group of practitioners who had spent years observing how family law matters were conducted and felt that something was consistently missing: a practice that treated the emotional weight of separation as an integral part of how legal work ought to be done, not as something to set aside.

The firm's name draws on the Malay word warisan — heritage, legacy — reflecting a belief that how family matters are resolved shapes what people carry forward. Children grow up in the arrangements made. Relationships with co-parents continue long after decrees are issued. Financial decisions taken under pressure can define years ahead.

Our founding practitioners brought together experience in civil family litigation, mediation, and advisory work. The firm has remained deliberately measured in scale — focused on family law, attentive to each file, and staffed to allow senior practitioners to remain directly involved from the first consultation to the final step.

Warisan Advocates practises exclusively in civil family law for non-Muslim parties under the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976. This specialisation allows us to maintain depth of knowledge in a field that changes through case law, procedural developments at the High Court, and shifts in judicial approach to matters such as child arrangements and asset division.

Our office at Jalan Bangsar occupies a quieter part of a busy professional district — accessible, but arranged to feel contained and private. Consultations are conducted in a dedicated meeting room with no foot traffic. Video appointments are offered via encrypted platforms for clients who prefer discretion or are unable to attend in person.

We believe clients make better decisions when they understand their situation clearly, and our practice is shaped accordingly: plain language, candid assessments, and a pace that does not manufacture urgency where none exists.

Mission & Values

What shapes how we work

Listening before advising

Every practitioner at the firm is trained to understand the client's full circumstances before forming a view. Advice that fits requires understanding the person, not just the legal question.

Honesty over comfort

We give candid assessments of likely outcomes rather than projections designed to retain a client. Where a client's position is difficult, they deserve to know that early.

Attention to lasting impact

Family law decisions often have effects that outlast the proceedings. We advise with that perspective in view — particularly in matters affecting children's arrangements.

Our Practice

Family law in Malaysia: what we handle and why focus matters

Family law in Malaysia operates across two distinct legal systems. Our practice sits entirely within the civil jurisdiction — serving non-Muslim parties under the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976, the Guardianship of Infants Act 1961, and related statutes governing maintenance, property, and child welfare.

The civil family law landscape in Malaysia has been shaped substantially by High Court judgments over the past two decades. Judicial approaches to matrimonial asset division have evolved considerably, and practitioners who work primarily in this area are better positioned to give current, accurate assessments of likely outcomes than generalists who handle family matters as one of many practice areas.

Warisan Advocates focuses exclusively on this field. Our practitioners follow developing case law, attend Bar Council family law seminars, and maintain working knowledge of the procedural culture of the courts before which we appear — including the Family Court division of the Kuala Lumpur High Court. This depth of focus informs our advice from the initial consultation onwards.

We serve clients across the Klang Valley and assist individuals in other states through video consultations. All correspondence, documents, and proceedings are conducted in Bahasa Malaysia or English as appropriate to the matter and the client's preference.
