Why Warisan

What sets our approach apart

Family law is personal. We believe the way a firm conducts itself — its pace, its transparency, its tone — matters as much as its technical command of the law.

Confidentiality by design

All consultations and files are handled with strict discretion. Clients are never asked to share more than their matter requires.

Senior practitioner involvement

Matters are handled by experienced family law practitioners — not delegated to junior associates without oversight.

No rushed timelines

We work at the pace that suits your situation. Decisions made carefully tend to hold better over time.

Plain-language communication

Legal documents, options, and outcomes are explained in language you can act on — not language that creates further confusion.

Local knowledge, Malaysian context

Our practice is grounded in Malaysian civil family law — the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976 and the courts that administer it.

Sensitivity toward family impact

We give particular attention to matters involving children, approaching arrangements with care for their wellbeing.

Take the first step

You do not have to work through this alone

A first conversation with our practitioners is a chance to understand your situation and the paths available — at your own pace, without obligation.

Common Questions

Things clients often ask us

If your question is not here, feel free to reach out directly — we are glad to respond.

What does the first consultation involve?
The first session is a private, structured conversation with a senior practitioner. We listen to your circumstances before offering any assessment. By the end, you will have a plain-language outline of how Malaysian civil family law applies to your situation, the available pathways, and a realistic sense of what each would involve. There is no expectation to decide anything on the day.
How long does a divorce typically take in Malaysia?
This depends significantly on whether the matter is contested or settled by agreement. An uncontested divorce with a consent order may conclude in four to eight months once court scheduling is accounted for. Contested proceedings before the High Court can take considerably longer — often one to three years depending on complexity and court load. We give you an honest timeline at the outset.
Does this firm handle Syariah family law matters?
Our practice is limited to civil family law for non-Muslim parties under the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976. We do not practise in the Syariah courts. If your matter falls under Islamic family law, we can provide a referral to practitioners in that jurisdiction.
What if I am not ready to proceed — can I still come in for a consultation?
Absolutely. Many of our clients come in while still weighing their options. The consultation is a place to gain clarity, not to commit. Understanding your legal position is useful whether or not you decide to take formal steps afterwards.
How are children's interests addressed in proceedings?
Care, control, and access arrangements are given careful attention in every file that involves children. Malaysian courts apply the principle of the child's welfare as the paramount consideration. We advise clients on constructing arrangements that are sustainable and which the court is likely to view as genuinely child-focused.
How are matrimonial assets typically divided?
Under Malaysian civil family law, the court has wide discretion to divide matrimonial assets equitably — not necessarily equally. Factors considered include the length of marriage, contributions of each party (financial and otherwise), and the needs of any children. We advise on what a fair range might look like in your specific circumstances.
